Hub Builder
Keep LISA running while building smarter systems to scale.
About LISA
The role
The London Initiative for Safe AI (LISA) advances AI safety for the public benefit and reduces the risks of global catastrophic harms from advanced AI systems.
We run a members-led AI safety hub in central London that brings together organisations, individual researchers, and upskilling programmes, all working to make the transition to advanced AI go well. Our space hosts some of the brightest minds pioneering AI safety research — from academics and startup founders to government officials and researchers at organisations like Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and the UK AI Safety Institute.
LISA is growing fast. Since the start of this year, the number of people coming to our space has near doubled, and that growth is set to continue. The service we provide to our members, and the systems that underpin it, need to keep pace.
We're expanding our team of Hub Builders, with a particular focus on leveraging AI to quickly build systems that enable our small team to work smarter, not harder. As Hub Builder, your role will be a dynamic mix of hands-on running of the space — coordinating day-to-day ops and making sure every member and visitor has a great experience — and head-down focused work, building the tools and systems to transform how LISA runs.
We anticipate this role will be a fantastic springboard into an AI safety career. You'll work alongside researchers at world-leading AI safety organisations, build relationships across the field, and grow your career here as LISA scales.
What you'll do
About you
Make LISA work better
Spot the parts of LISA that are currently inefficient, manual, or liable to break as we scale
Design smart, durable solutions that transform our team's work and make LISA a delight for its members
Leverage AI, alongside your own sharp judgement of what's needed, to build and ship your solutions quickly and independently
Manage our day-to-day operations
Keep the hub running smoothly: everything from member queries and visitor hosting, to catering and maintenance. You'll spend around 60% of your time on front desk for this part of the role.
Coordinate and manage porters, cleaners, and other contractors, setting clear expectations and holding them to your standards
Ensure the space always looks professional, welcoming, and well-maintained; our hub should match the quality of the work happening here
Be the heart of LISA's community
Build real relationships with members – know their names, their work, what they need to succeed
Be the person people come to; approachable, responsive, and curious about what our members are working on
Help plan and execute AI safety events – from member socials to more targeted programming for the field
High agency and sound judgment – You can run with complex projects and be trusted to get the job done; you also know when to bring in others or ask for help
Systematic thinker – You naturally establish order out of chaos; the systems and products you build reflect this
Razor-sharp focus on outcomes – You prioritise ruthlessly and do exactly what's needed to achieve your goal – no more, no less
AI is part of how you work – You're already using Claude Cowork or similar to transform your capabilities vs this time last year. Your use of AI is judicious – you keep your hands on the wheel and know when your own thinking is needed
User-oriented – You will naturally keep our members at the heart of everything you do. This comes through in your social interactions; you will be a warm, helpful presence at LISA
You genuinely care about making transformative AI go well – You don't need to be a technical expert, but are keen to grow your understanding of AI safety and your role within it
