How the panel works
LISA is growing fast, and so is the range of work we take on to build the field around us. We're creating a panel of contractors we can call on for discrete, paid projects that help grow and strengthen the AI safety ecosystem.
Our field-building work spans three areas: mobilising talent into the field, strengthening the organisations working in it, and convening the ecosystem so it collaborates well. Panel projects sit across all three.
Panel membership is not employment; it is an eligibility list. When a project arises that suits your skills, we'll send you a short brief and a proposed fee, which you're free to accept or decline. We don't guarantee any particular volume of work, and there is no ongoing obligation on either side between projects. The panel is well suited to those seeking meaningful, flexible work alongside their research, studies, or other commitments, and a route into the AI safety field.
Projects vary by need, so these are illustrative rather than a fixed list:
Mobilising talent
Design and deliver an event for specific target audiences around AI Safety
Produce onboarding, curriculum, or programme materials
Map the talent landscape for a specific field, career stage, or geography
Strengthening organisations
Build a practical resource or playbook for early-stage AI safety orgs (e.g. operations, hiring, fundraising)
Redesign LISA’s member application and onboarding process
Improve LISA’s catering offering and forecasting to improve customer outcomes
Convening the ecosystem
Develop an events strategy to deliver on LISA’s convening ambitions
Design and deliver a convening event (e.g. mixer, debate panel, working sessions)
Produce a field briefing, newsletter, or distilled write-up of research or discussion
High agency and self-directed - you can take a brief and run with it with minimal oversight, and deliver to a high standard
A strong finisher - you scope tightly, deliver on time, and can be trusted with a discrete piece of work end to end
Razor-sharp focus on outcomes - you do exactly what the project needs, no more, no less
AI is part of how you work - you use AI tools judiciously to work faster and sharper, while keeping your hands on the wheel
You care about making transformative AI go well - you don't need to be a technical expert, but you're motivated by the mission and keen to grow your understanding of it
Suited to flexible, portfolio-style work - you have the space alongside other commitments to take on projects when they fit
Register your interest via a short form (<5 mins)
We screen against a consistent set of criteria, and may arrange a brief call
If it's a fit, we add you to the panel for a fixed term (renewable) - this confers no income in itself
When a suitable project arises, we send a short brief and an agreed fee; you accept or decline freely
You're paid per project at an agreed day rate, with no guaranteed volume of work and no obligation either way between projects
You remain self-employed and free to work with others throughout
What we offer
The London Initiative for Safe AI (LISA) advances AI safety for the public benefit and reduces the risks of global catastrophic harms from advanced AI systems.
We run a members-led AI safety hub in central London that brings together organisations, individual researchers, and upskilling programmes, all working to make the transition to advanced AI go well. Our space hosts some of the brightest minds pioneering AI safety research - from research nonprofits, academics and startup founders to government officials and AI safety staff from organisations like Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and the UK AI Safety Institute.
Paid project work - at a competitive day rate
Flexibility - take the projects that suit you, around your other commitments
Exposure to the field - work with and alongside leading AI safety organisations and individuals
A genuine route in - build relationships and a track record in AI safety
Real impact - help build the space where the field figures out how to navigate advanced AI safely
We’re building the panel on a rolling basis.
